Ascent Through Time

“Ascent Through Time” captures an early morning image of a solitary hiker making their way toward the summit of the Sutter Buttes, in the Western foothills of the Sierras, and the eroded heart of a volcano that last spewed fire 1.2 million years ago. The remnants encompass an area 10.5 miles diagonally. Billowing storm clouds loom above, highlighting the rugged volcanic ridges below, while the lone traveler underscores the scale and endurance of both nature and human spirit. This black-and-white photograph is a meditation on time: the fleeting passage of one figure against the unyielding permanence of stone and sky. A study in light, form, and resilience, it invites viewers to consider the immensity of geological time and our small but meaningful place within it.

I release limited edition California fine art prints in small runs of 25. "Ascent Through Time" is available either in Collector's Print (Unframed) on Hannemühle fine art paper, or in Museum Framed Edition on Hannemühle fine art paper, under Acrylic glass and framed with mounting hardware installed. Each will be produced by WhiteWall (Germany), one of the most respected art labs in the world. A Certificate of Authenticity indicating the print number within the edition, and signed by the Artist, will be provided to each collector.
